According to the Public Health Agency of Canada, it is recommended that kids should be active for at least 60 minutes a day. The prevalence of obesity has increased substantially over the last 25 years with as many as 26% of 2 to 17-year-olds being overweight or obese. Children today, weigh more and have a higher body mass index (BMI) than their peers of just a generation earlier. Technological advances of this modern society have contributed to a sedentary lifestyle that has changed the phenotype of children from that of 20 years ago. A lack of regular physical activity and excessive sedentary behaviour are important determinants of obesity and related chronic disease risk in later years.

Adult Resources

Make a positive healthy lifestyle change.

More and more, doctors and therapists are prescribing physical activity for the treatment and management of mental illness/health, but access to personal trainers and coaches is not a viable option for many due to cost or time constraints, adequate motivation and lack of commitment emerge as  other  challenges for some. Fitness for Mental Health has developed evidence based programming that is specific and consistent, yet customized to suit both individuals and the communities in which we operate. Some adults/professionals have a hard time nursing the adequate energy needed to get them through their day or various engagements. Living an active lifestyle, coupled with good nutrition and rest would go a long way to boost morale, confidence, improve energy levels and overall wellbeing. Contact us for a customized plan.

Resources for Seniors

Resources for seniors to help with a healthy lifestyle.

There are many reasons why we tend to slow down and become more sedentary with age. It may be due to health problems, weight or pain issues, or worries about falling. Or perhaps you think that exercising simply isn’t for you. But as you grow older, an active lifestyle becomes more important than ever to your health.

Research has shown that physical activity was the number one contributor to longevity, adding extra years to your life—even if you don’t start exercising until your senior years. But getting active is not just about adding years to your life, it’s about adding life to your years.

Getting moving can help boost your energy, maintain your independence, protect your heart, and manage symptoms of illness or pain as well as your weight. Regular exercise is also good for your mind, mood, and memory. Contact us for a customized plan.
