AT MY BEST

A toolkit inspiring lifelong healthy habits for youth. At My Best is a curriculum-linked toolkit that combines physical activity, healthy eating and emotional well-being for Youth, to inspire healthier choices today and in the future.

At My Best was developed in response to the staggering obesity rates in Canada. In 1978, 12% of children and adolescents aged 2 to 17 years were overweight and 3% were obese, for a combined overweight/obesity prevalence of 15%. By 2004, 18% were overweight in this age group and 8% or half a million children – were obese – a combined prevalence of 26%.Obesity conditions in youth and adolescents often continue into adulthood, which can contribute to a range of other debilitating diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular conditions, and diabetes.

There is a current epidemic of overweight, obese and physically inactive children and youth across Canada. A 2004 Canadian Community Health survey found that among children aged 6 to 17, the likelihood of obesity tended to rise with time spent watching TV, playing video games or using the computer.

Lack of adequate health and physical education programs and limited resources within the school system have contributed to children not developing the skills or the habits that are needed to be physically active and to make healthy lifestyle choices, hence the development of At My Best.

Program Goals:

AT MY BEST PLAY DAY

At My Best Play Day is a day dedicated to fun and games and celebrating healthy, active lifestyles.

The goals of At My Best Play Days are to:

✔️ Provide opportunities to promote healthy habits or celebrate successful participation in the At My Best program;
✔️ Support students in making connections between physical activity, healthy eating, and emotional well-being;
✔️ Build connections with parents and communities with a focus on healthy living;
✔️ Promote the importance of quality physical and health education programs.

LET’S GET ACTIVE (LGA) 

Our LGA is a Zumba themed program which carters to Youth, Adults and Seniors. Great forum to get your exercise in while having fun. Bringing many benefits such as; improves general health, great for weight management, tones entire body, boosts heart health, forum to de-stress, improves balance/coordination, boost morale and mood.

ZUMBA KIDS

We are excited to share that Activ R Us was selected by Canadian Tire’s Jumpstart to receive a grant from their Sport Relief Fund. The fund helps community sport organizations like ours to continue providing access to sport and play for Canadian kids.

Our Zumba Kids sessions feature kid-friendly routines based on original Zumba choreography. We break down the steps, add games, activities, and cultural exploration elements into the class structure.

Zumba Kids is a great platform for kids to develop key motor skills, leadership, respect, team work, confidence, self-esteem, memory, creativity, coordination, cultural awareness, improve their social skills, and get their exercise in while having fun with their peers.

ZUMBA ADULTS

Looking for a fun filled and laissez-faire environment to get your exercise in?

Move with Zumba, and de-stress from your normal crazy routine!

We take the work out of workout, by mixing low intensity and high intensity moves for an interval style, calorie-burning dance fitness party.

All are welcome! whether you are a beginner or got some moves under your sleeves

Our sessions run year-round, through Fall and Winter. Cold or hot outside? We got you still. Each session is designed to bring people together to sweat it on.
Zumba increases cardio and calorie burning, while adding moves that define/sculpt your core and legs. A total workout, combining all elements of fitness – cardio, muscle conditioning, balance, and flexibility, boosted energy and a serious dose of awesome each time you leave class.

Provisions for private sessions, group sessions, as well as virtual sessions.

ZUMBA SENIORS (ZUMBA GOLD)

Research has shown that physical activity was the number one contributor to longevity, adding extra years to your life—even if you do not start exercising until your senior years. But getting active is not just about adding years to your life, it is about adding life to your years.

We target active older seniors who are looking for a modified Zumba class that recreates the original moves you love at a lower-intensity.
The design of the session introduces easy-to-follow Zumba choreography that focuses on balance, range of motion and coordination. Come ready to sweat, and prepare to leave empowered and feeling strong.

Our sessions focus on all elements of fitness: cardiovascular, muscular conditioning, flexibility, and balance!

AQUA ZUMBA

For those looking to make a splash by adding a low-impact, high-energy aquatic exercise to their fitness routine.

Being in water helps relief the pressure around the joints/heels, as you groove to the beat.

Aqua Zumba blends the Zumba philosophy with water resistance, for one pool party you should not miss!

There is less impact on your joints during an Aqua Zumba class so you can really let loose. Water creates natural resistance, which means every step is more challenging and helps tone your muscles.

You will do large muscle movements such as:

  • Reaching up with your arms and lifting your legs in the water.
  • Slow exaggerated circling of your hips and shoulders.

Aqua Zumba encourages calorie burn as you can burn up to 350 / 400 calories per session.

WELLNESS FRIDAY (FITNESS FRIDAY)

More often than not, organizations and institutions have a hard time keeping their employees motivated and enthused to keep up with the weekly demands. Stirring away from the typical “Casual Fridays,” Activ R Us is striving to champion our “Wellness Fridays” as the new norm.

The goal is simple; To create healthy, safe, and fun filled environments for employees to get some activity/exercise in, while bonding with each other. It presents a great forum to build the social aspect and foster relationships within the organization. Which will in-turn improve overall productivity and morale. There is a proven relationship between physical activity and output/mood/wellbeing.

We tailor each respective session to the audience, need and preference. Our professionals love working with employees, teachers, workers, contractors, volunteers and all who are looking to take charge of their wellbeing!

Activities ranging from Zumba, Dance Fitness, Multi Sports, No equipment exercise, games, and team bonding activities. The possibilities are endless!

NO EQUIPMENT FITNESS

Too Busy with your responsibilities and engagements that you can not commit to a regular gym workout routine or program? Activ R Us is here for you with our No Equipment Fitness.

You can join the session from the comfort of your home, office space or wherever!

You will get the pleasure of working with our very own Fitness Guru ‘Chantal Sawicki’ Sessions are engaging and uplifting, structured to target an effective body workout, without the use of equipment such as dumbbells.

Provisions for virtual group sessions as well as private sessions.

ELPAZE CUP

Activ R Us is excited to showcase the upcoming El Paze Cup Soccer Tournament. The community inspired tournament provides a forum for young athletes from both competitive and development teams to come showcase/compete in a fun filled, safe and healthy environment.

An All-Inclusive Tournament which welcomes teams from all over Canada to take part in this exciting event!

Quality, Competition and Fun are the words of the day.

The tournament is hosted twice a year (indoor and outdoor), targeted for teams U6 up to U17, plus an 18+ Division.

Medals are provided for finalists, while the winner for each team gets to lift the prestigious ELPAZE Cup.

Scouts are invited for these events, with Europe trials opportunities in the horizon.
OSA standard rules are in force, with elite Referees present to officiate/facilitate a smooth transitioning of the games.

The tournament provides a great platform for Youth to showcase their talent, build confidence, leadership, improve motor skills, teamwork, self-esteem, and social skills.

Mom and Baby Fitness classes are designed to be safe, effective, and challenging for all levels of ability while focusing on postpartum recovery.

We focus on restoring weakened muscles, namely the core and pelvic floor and engage in safe exercises to help correct diastais recti (aka mummy tummy) and other common postpartum issues such as leaky bladder, low back pain and pelvic pain in postpartum
